Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation
Founded in 1957, the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF) has a long and proud history of contributing to grassroots community projects. In 2007, LCEF awarded nearly $20 million to diverse organizations and schools in communities where Lowe’s operates stores and Distribution Centers. Together, Lowe’s Companies, Inc. and LCEF have donated more than $27.5 million to these worthy causes. LCEF’s primary philanthropic focus areas include K-12 public schools and non-profit, community-based organizations.

Lowe's Toolbox for Education
To empower parents and encourage involvement in their children's schools, the Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant program funds school improvement projects initiated by parent groups.
Launched in partnership with PTO Today, a leading organization serving parent-teacher groups, Toolbox for Education provides grants of up to $5,000 for public school improvement projects. Since 2006, nearly 2,000 schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia have received support through the Toolbox for Education grant program, benefiting over 1 million school children.

Habitat for Humanity
Building on more than 60 years of home improvement and community involvement, Lowe’s has joined forces with Habitat for Humanity International to benefit communities across the country. With nearly $20 million in contributions over the past four years, Lowe’s underwrites Habitat’s Women Build program. As an active participant in a variety of Habitat projects from coast to coast, hundreds of Lowe’s volunteers help Habitat homeowners build their dreams each year.
Lowe’s and its vendor partners provided $2.85 million to benefit Habitat for Humanity’s long-term Gulf Coast Rebuilding Program. These funds assist Habitat’s many affiliates providing houses, tools and supplies to local families in need.

American Red Cross
When a natural disaster strikes a community, Lowe's is quick to support the recovery effort with onsite volunteers, product donations and much-needed funds. Partnering with the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts since 1999, Lowe's has contributed more than $17.5 million to the organization's recovery programs through vendor support and customer donation programs. These funds have helped aid in relief efforts and the response to hundreds of disasters, from hurricanes and tornadoes to earthquakes, wildfires and floods.

Home Safety Council
Founded by Lowe’s in 1993, The Home Safety Council (HSC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping prevent the nearly 21 million injuries occurring each year from accidents in the home. During 2007, Lowe’s and its vendors contributed $3 million toward HSC safety initiatives, including the Great Safety Adventure -- a traveling, life-sized home that teaches children and their parents about home hazards.

Lowe's Heroes
Lowe’s Heroes are employee volunteers working with local non-profit organizations to improve their communities. In 2007, more than a thousand Lowe’s stores performed Lowe’s Heroes volunteer projects. Activities included providing home safety information, renovating Boys & Girls Clubs, creating unique learning spaces, and building Habitat for Humanity houses just to name a few.

SkillsUSA
Lowe’s and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation began a partnership with SkillsUSA in 2007. This national student organization works directly with business and industry groups to provide relevant job training and education to more than 300,000 student and professional members enrolled in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. Participants also learn and develop important leadership skills, positive attitudes and pride in quality workmanship. In its first year of participation, Lowe’s awarded grants in the amount of $10,000 to 30 SkillsUSA chapters for innovative community service projects and education program enhancements.

Rebuilding Together
With $1 million in support, Lowe’s and Rebuilding Together work to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, helping low-income homeowners, from the elderly and disabled to families with children, live in warmth, safety and independence. In 2008, Lowe’s is the underwriter for Rebuilding Together’s
Safe & Healthy Homes
Initiative.

National Trust for Historic Preservation
Since 2006, Lowe’s has contributed $3 million to the National Historic Trust Foundation, helping to restore 20 significant historic properties. In 2008, Lowe’s is awarding up to 20, $50,000 grants to restore Rosenwald Schools throughout the United States. The one-room schoolhouses, once home to African American students, rank as the nation’s 11th most endangered places.

The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy preserves the plants, animals and natural communities representing the diversity of life on earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. Since 2006, Lowe’s has contributed $3 million to support a variety of significant conservation activities in partnership with The Nature Conservancy.

Lowe’s Scholarships
In 2007, Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation awarded over $640,000 in scholarships to help students pursuing a college education. Both Lowe’s employees and the general public are eligible to apply for Lowe’s scholarships.
